Montclair State University has recently announced a partnership with pharmaceutical company Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) aimed at fostering the growth of future STEM scholars. The collaboration involves a generous financial contribution from BMS to support research projects led by students in the College of Science and Mathematics.

As part of the Bristol Myers Squibb Science Scholars Program, BMS has granted the University $25,000 to be distributed among five health-focused research projects. These projects will provide students with valuable exposure to the pharmaceutical industry and hands-on mentorship opportunities. Each research project will be assigned a mentor from BMS who will guide the students through the research process and discuss potential career paths in STEM fields.

College of Science and Mathematics Dean Lora Billings expressed her gratitude for the partnership, stating, “This program allows students to participate in real world research projects alongside professional scientists, experiencing STEM careers first hand.” She also highlighted the importance of such initiatives in diversifying the future STEM workforce, saying, “We are thankful that BMS supports our goal to increase quality experiential learning opportunities as we celebrate the courage, knowledge, and perseverance students draw on to thrive in STEM fields.”

Undergraduate and graduate students in STEM-related majors, such as Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Applied Mathematics, or Computer Science, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 are eligible to apply for the program. Selected candidates will have the opportunity to engage in meaningful research experiences and gain insights into the world of STEM careers.

The partnership between Montclair State University and Bristol Myers Squibb represents a significant investment in the next generation of STEM leaders, providing students with the resources and support they need to excel in their academic and professional pursuits.
