For the fourth consecutive year, Montclair State University has continued its growth by welcoming its largest-ever incoming class.

The Class of 2028 joins the biggest returning student population to make up the highest total enrollment in the University’s history, surpassing last year’s record-breaking student body.

As of the first day of classes, the institution has welcomed 4,548 first-year students to its Montclair campus – as well as 800 students to Bloomfield College of Montclair State University – for the start of the fall 2024 semester. This pushes the total University enrollment to 23,546 students. All students will also have access to $30 million in institutional financial aid and tuition-free programs including the Red Hawk Advantage.

The University has also seen a significant rise in its international student population to begin the academic year. International enrollment has risen from nearly 300 students in fall 2020 to nearly 1,000 students this year, reflecting Montclair’s ascending global recognition.

“This growth is a reflection of the unique value proposition Montclair provides its students,” says Vice President for Enrollment Management Wendy Lin-Cook. “The University’s trusted brand and its commitment to developing flexible pathways to earning a degree make it an attractive institution for prospective students, and we are launching exciting new initiatives and new online degree programs to further President Koppell’s vision of what a 21st-century university should be.”

Facts About The Class of 2028:

– Students hail from 29 states and 75 countries
– The class boasts a cumulative GPA of 3.25
– Forty-five percent of students identify as Hispanic, further solidifying Montclair’s status as a Hispanic-Serving Institution
– Forty-two percent are first-generation college students
– Fifty-six percent received institutional aid
– Eighty-seven percent received some form of financial aid

Montclair’s mission serves a truly diverse student body reflective of New Jersey. More than half of the undergraduate student population identify as minority group members.

The University also serves the entire socioeconomic spectrum, with nearly half of Montclair’s students receiving federal Pell Grants because they come from lower-income families.

As New Jersey’s second-largest higher education institution, Montclair has maintained its commitment to accessible educational excellence for all by remaining one of the most affordable schools in New Jersey.
